For Frown Lines & Crow's Feet
There are two types of facial wrinkles, dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are the ones you see when you smile, laugh, frown, or show emotion. A lot of people say I've earned every one of these wrinkles, but it does not mean you have to show them.
BOTOX® is a drug that has been approved for medical use for many years. Cosmetic denervation is a new use for BOTOX® and the procedure can dramatically soften worry lines, laugh lines, frown lines, crow's feet and other dynamic wrinkles.

 |
How does BOTOX® work?
BOTOX® relaxes our muscles by blocking impulses from our facial nerves. The muscle is then unable to contract, preventing wrinkles and smoothing the overlying skin. The untreated muscles contract normally allowing our normal facial expressions to continue unaffected. |

 |
Is BOTOX® Safe?
BOTOX® treatments have been used over the years to safely and effectively treat many ophthalmologic and neurologic conditions. Many people have found that BOTOX® injections have effectively reduced or even eliminated their migraine headaches. Thousands of patients receive BOTOX® every year and it has become a popular treatment for reversing the signs of aging. |

 |
What are the treatments like?
A tiny needle is used to inject a very small amount of BOTOX® into the muscle. This is done very precisely into the locations which concern you. The discomfort associated with the injections is minimal as the needle is so fine and only small amounts of BOTOX® are used. It is done in my office and no sedation or anesthetic is used. The procedure only takes minutes and normal activities can be resumed immediately. You do not need anyone to drive you to or from the office. |

 |
What are the side effects?
The most common side effect is temporary bruising at one or more of the injection sites. This can be covered with make-up. On occasion, the BOTOX® can migrate (leak) into nearby muscles causing temporary weakness. There are rare cases of drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of facial expression. The chance of experiencing a side effect depends which muscles are injected. Any side effect is temporary anyway, as the effects of BOTOX® are completely reversible. |

 |
How should I expect to look?
BOTOX® can give you a more youthful appearance by smoothing out the dynamic wrinkles. Static wrinkles that are due to aging and sun damaged skin will not be affected as they are not caused by facial expressions. BOTOX® does not tighten skin or replace the need for laser resurfacing or a facelift. It is often used in conjunction with other procedures though, such as laser resurfacing or collagen injections, for a combined effect. |

 |
Are there limitations?
The primary limitation to BOTOX® is that the effects are temporary, lasting three to six months. (This can, however, be an advantage if for some reason you don't like the effects). There is clinical evidence that the duration of effects increase over time so that future treatments can be spaced further apart. It should be kept in mind that results vary from patient to patient and may be less effective if you are over 65 years of age. |
